What is SHRM?

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world's largest association devoted to human resource management. The Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 225,000 members in over 130 countries, and more than 575 affiliated chapters.

SHRM provides its members with:

  • Education and information services;
  • Conferences and seminars;
  • Government and media representation;
  • And publications that equip HR professionals to become leaders and decision makers within their organizations.

Today's human resources professionals are at the center of organizational change, and are being counted on to lead organizational change in the next decade. SHRM is committed to helping its members develop as future human resources leaders by providing as many professional growth and networking opportunities as possible.

SHRM membership applications and information are available through our local Chapter as a member service, or visit the SHRM web site at www.shrm.org

Please note that the membership application process and dues payment for SHRM are entirely separate from the membership applicaiton process and dues payment for HRM-RI. Although HRM-RI is a local chapter of SHRM, being a member of SHRM does not automatically make someone a member of HRM-RI. The reverse is also true: being a member of HRM-RI does not automatically make someone a SHRM member.

At this time, an individual does not have to be a member of SHRM in order to join HRM-RI. However, SHRM membership is strongly recommended for all HRM-RI members because of the many benefits and information resources which SHRM provides.
