About the Presentation

This program will provide guidance to human resources professionals regarding the effective use of disciplinary action in the workplace. Specific topics to be addressed will include:

  • Precursors to disciplinary action, including the importance of thorough and even-handed investigations;
  • Understanding and utilizing progressive discipline to change behavior; and
  • Recognizing and avoiding legal pitfalls in the implementation of discipline

Bob will specifically cover critical components of the Employee and Labor Relations Body of Knowledge:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Develop and implement employee relations programs that will create a positive organizational culture.
  • Assist in establishing work rules and monitor their application and enforcement to ensure fairness and consistency (for union and nonunion environments).
  • Develop grievance and disciplinary policies and procedures to ensure fairness and consistency.

About the Speaker

Robert H. Morsilli

   

Robert H. Morsilli, Parter, Jackson Lewis LLP

Robert H. Morsilli is a Partner in the Boston, Massachusetts office of Jackson Lewis LLP. Mr. Morsilli practices labor and employment law, with a particular emphasis on labor relations, wage and hour and employment law counseling and litigation. In labor relations matters, Mr. Morsilli regularly counsels clients on the practice of positive employee relations, negotiates collective bargaining agreements on behalf of organized clients, and counsels clients with respect to rights and obligations under collective bargaining agreements and applicable labor and employment laws.

He also has vast experience in arbitration and in proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board and the Massachusetts Labor Relations Commission.

With respect to wage and hour and employment law matters, Mr. Morsilli provides regular counseling to clients and is a frequent trainer and speaker. He represents clients in class and collective actions, single plaintiff litigation and federal and state administrative investigations.

In addition to his labor relations and wage and hour experience, Mr. Morsilli represents clients in employment litigation matters on a regular basis. He has appeared before several United States Courts of Appeals and District Courts, Massachusetts state courts, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.

Education

Mr. Morsilli graduated from the University of Rhode Island with distinction in 1992, and from The George Washington University National Law Center in 1995.

Mr. Morsilli is currently admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the State of Rhode Island and the District of Columbia, as well as numerous federal district and appellate courts.
