The Human Resource Management Association of Rhode Island has established a scholarship fund to help college students with an interest in the field of Human Resources finance the cost of their college education.
Awards are not based on financial need and may be combined with other financial aid as long as the total received does not exceed the cost of tuition, fees and books. (This award is not intended to be used for costs associated with on or off-campus housing.)
Awards are given without regard to race, color, creed, religion, disability or national origin. Awards are given in varying amounts, up to a maximum of $1,000. to be used toward the cost of tuition, fees or books.
The deadline for applying is: Friday, December 4, 2009.
Qualifications:
- Applicant is a degree seeking junior or senior; all majors considered
- Applicant can provide evidence of a solid educational background
- Applicant attends a college or university in RI; non-RI residents eligible to apply
- Applicant must demonstrate a personal commitment to the field of Human Resources
Student Application Instructions:
- Complete the HRM-RI Student Scholarship Application Form (see links at right),.
- Submit the Scholarship Reference Form (see links at right) to a Human Resource Professor, SHRM (or related club) Advisor, or an HR Internship Supervisor who knows you well and is familiar with your career goals. Obtain the completed reference in a signed sealed envelope prior to the submission deadline.
- Mail your HRM-RI Student Scholarship Application, the Faculty Reference Form and a current transcript to: Susan Caizzi, HRM-RI Business & Education Committee Chairperson, Career Center, Roger Williams University, 1 Old Ferry Road, Bristol, RI 02809 by Friday, December 4th.

HRM-RI Student Scholarship Recipients Announced
The Business & Education Committee has selected two recipients for the HRM-RI Student Scholarship. The students are:
- Krista Morisi, a senior at Providence College, who is majoring in Management.
- Carolyn Husovsky, a senior at Bryant University, who is majoring in Business Management.
Krista has completed two HR internships -- CIBER,Inc., where she is still working as their recruiting intern, and at A.T.Cross, where she created and presented new hire orientations and learned how to do a comparative analysis of salaries across different occupations.
Carolyn has completed two internships at EMC2. The first was more of a HR generalist role, where she shadowed HR professionals and learned HRIS systems. The second internship involved more program management, where she lead a team of HR professionals to create a career development site on company's intranet. Carolyn is also the Vice President of the SHRM chapter at Bryant University.
