Lyons Receives ESGR's "Above and Beyond" Award for Wolverine Joining Technologies

HRM-RI members Patricia A. Lyons, J.D., SPHR, Human Resources Manager at Wolverine Joining Technologies, received ESGR's "Above and Beyond" award on April 1, 2010. The award was presented to Wolverine Joining Technologies by Brigadier General Matthew J. Dzialo, Chief of Staff-Air, Joint Force Headquarters, RI National Guard. Other companies in the area that have received similar awards include Cardi's, Amica, and Police and FireFighters groups.

ESGR is a group whose focus is dedicated to Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. The ESGR "Above and Beyond" Award was created to publicly recognize American employers who provide extraordinary patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who have answered their nation's call to serve. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.

Wolverine Joining Technologies was nominated for the "About and Beyond" Award by WJT employee Bruce Bergman who stated, "It was my pleasure to put all of WJT in for the award because during my years working here I have been tasked to serve on many missions for this country, and the support I have received has been exemplary, from Management right down to each individual in the plant. Being gone for weeks at a time is never easy, but WJT's willingness to work with me and to provide any support I asked for, was invaluable."

Bergman also indicated some of the issues that WJT covered, or at least was willing to cover if he needed to address them. Those issues were:

  • Supplementing military pay up to the employee’s current pay level;

  • Extending dependent health care coverage during service (employees activated to military service receive personal healthcare coverage from the military);

  • Continuing fringe benefits as if the employee never left, including accruing vacation, seniority, and continued participation any company-wide programs.

Bergman concluded, "All of my peers here at WJT stepped forward and offered to lend a hand to myself or my family any time. The continued company-wide support has allowed me to perform to my highest levels as I continue to serve, and it has meant a lot to me personally."

Monroe Achieves Inavero's Best of Staffing Designation

The following news was contributed by HRM-RI member Josh Iadarola, Regional Sales Manager for Monroe Staffing Services.

In a recent survey conducted by the Inavero Institute and Career Builder and sent to over of 60,000 clients, Monroe Staffing was one of only 47 staffing companies nationally to achieve the score necessary to be given Best of Staffing designation.

To be awarded this designation, Monroe Staffing needed 75% of surveyed clients to rate them with a "willingness to recommend" of 9 or 10 out of 10. This is truly remarkable compared to the overall industry benchmark of 55%.

Additionally, Best of Staffing winners achieved a 69% Net Promoter Score (NPS), a methodology made famous by client loyalty author and former Bain consultant, Fred Reichheld. A single question, "how likely is it that you would recommend this firm to a friend or colleague?" -- the industry average for this being 41%.

Matt Briand, President of Monroe Staffing commented, "As they say, good customer service is judged by what you do, not what you say and last month we put that to the test. Everyone at Monroe Staffing understands that the key to success is adding value to our clients. By doing this we scored 13% higher than the Best in Staffing benchmark qualification."
