Business and Education Committee

Purpose:

To promote Chapter membership involvement in activities to support the Chapter’s education strategy and community outreach efforts, and to provide assistance and guidance to local HR student chapters.

Objectives:

  • Develop a business education activity plan and calendar of prospective events to encourage Chapter involvement and activities in the education arena and in Chapter- supported community service projects, and to promote and assist local HR student chapters.
     
  • Utilize the resource materials provided by SHRM in developing and coordinating support services to local student chapters.
     
  • Provide opportunities for HR students to learn more about the human resources profession by providing mentorships, promoting company sponsorships of student attendance at Chapter meetings or the SHRM annual conference, and through development of an internship program.
     
  • Develop and administer the student chapter scholarship award program, including promotional/communication materials, selection criteria, and process for selection, notification, and recognition of student scholarship award recipients.
     
  • Establish and maintain a business education resource material/information service for members at Chapter meetings, utilizing written communications at the registration table or presenting Committee highlights at Chapter meetings or in the Chapter newsletter.
     
  • Develop and recommend methods for integrating Chapter training and education projects with initiatives to improve workforce competencies.
     
  • Provide Chapter representation in community initiatives within the education arena.
     
  • Coordinate the administration of the SHRM Sons & Daughters Scholarship Program to help finance higher education for children of its members.
     
  • Provide assistance to the Professional Development and Program Committees in the development and support of workshops and special events or project initiatives which address education issues.
