From the President
July 2005
Dear Members,
Happy summer to everyone. Hope you all have the opportunity to
take some time to relax and reenergize over the next couple of
months.
While HRM-RI suspends regular meetings for the summer, please
keep checking the website for news and updates. We’ll continue
to post activities and news of interest in the HR field. Check
out one of the newer additions to our site – the link to
SHRM daily news updates – another benefit offered to SHRM
chapters.
Also, take note of the information on the Best
Places to Work competition. Wouldn’t it be terrific if an HRM-RI
company were named?
In other electronic communication news, Teresa
Ritter has been working hard on installing a list serve feature
for our site. This will enable members to communicate with everyone
in the membership. A pilot list serve for Board members is working
well. Several of us have used it to get feedback on current issues
and to survey one another on policies and practices. The full
list serve, available to all members, should be up and running
by September.
The next Board meeting is scheduled for August. We
will focus on planning for the upcoming program year as well as
on-going work on projects to revise the by-laws, increase our visibility
in the community and reach out to new members. As always, all suggestions
and all volunteers are welcome. Just recently Deb Quinn has offered
to join the Board as our Workforce Readiness advocate. Thanks,
Deb – you set a great example.
Another focus in the coming
months is the Tri-State Regional Conference planned for Sturbridge,
MA on May 18 – 19, 2006.This
is a cooperative effort of the chapters and state councils in Connecticut,
Massachusetts, and Rhode Island . HRM-RI and the Southern Rhode
Island Human Resource Council are partnering to lead the initiative
to secure and support sponsors and exhibitors for the conference.
This is a great opportunity to get involved – even if you
only offer a few hours to make some phone calls, or research some
contact information - it would be much appreciated.
See you in September,
Lynn P. Watterson, SPHR
