Bryant HR Game Team Returns from 2007 Northeast
Regional Student Conference and HR Games
by David G. Greenan, Bryant University, Management Department
Faculty Advisor - Student Chapter,
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)
The Bryant HR Game Team is back from the 2007 HR Games
event held this weekend at Rutgers University in New Jersey and
are safe and sound! Our thanks go out to the Rhode Island State
Council - SHRM for their very generous offer to pay for the team's
travel expenses that allowed me to rent the van and drive the team
to this year's event! I was very proud to tell Susan Post, Phyllis
Shun-Hannah and other SHRM National dignitaries how supportive
the RISC-SHRM has been over the years of both of the RI SHRM Student
Chapters and especially for the generosity extended to the Bryant
team to help them attend this year's event.
What a fantastic time we had! Bryant finished a highly respectable 13th place during their first appearance
since 2000 out of the 21 Colleges and Universities that were represented at
this year’s competition. We competed against such formidable adversaries as
Robert Morris University, a veteran HR Games participant and this year's 1st
place winners, and Shippensberg University, also a veteran team who came in
a "nail biting" second place!
Other schools in attendance included Seaton Hill University, Houghton College,
Marist College, Penn State University, Manhattanville, SUNY ( Buffalo and
New Palz), Temple University, University of Scranton, Bloomsberg University,
William Patterson University, and Alfred University.
Congratulations go out to our Bryant HR Team of "ALL STARS", Rebekah
Provost, Sherisa Yocher, Andrew Broussel, plus Jason Forte and Cathryn Meyer!
I am sure you will agree with me that Bryant’s strong finish in this year’s
event is a fantastic first time showing and a tribute to all who are associated
with our excellent HR program at Bryant!
This team should also be commended for all of the work they performed in preparation
for the HR Games event during the weeks leading up to the competition. Even
on the drive down to Rutgers, Cathryn, Jason, and Lauren Poniatoski were working
hard grilling the Bryant Team using HR "Flash Cards" that were hand
made by the team during these past weeks to help them prepare for the event!
What dedication!
A special thanks also goes out to Bryant University Professors Dr. Harsh Luthar
and Dr. John Poirier for their expert preparation assistance, and especially
to Dean Jack Trifts and Dr. Lori Coakley as none of this could happen without
their continued support! We made some great contacts this past weekend and
discovered some important information that will help us plan our HR Games strategy
as we identify next year’s HR Games Team and begin our work for the 2008 competition!
Thank you again for your continued support and dedication to Bryant SHRM.
