The Alice Stanelun Award for Outstanding Support
of the Human Resource Profession

[Alice Stanelun]

In Memory of Alice O. Stanelun

In October 2006 we lost a valued member of the HRM-RI Board. Alice Stanelun, who served as Chapter Management Professional and Secretary, passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer.

Most of you will remember Alice as the cheerful face, early in the morning, who handed you a name tag at our breakfast meetings. Her contributions to HRM were so much more.

As an experienced businesswoman she gave us valuable advice on administering and promoting HRM. Although initially she knew little about the Human Resource pro-
fession, she made it a priority to learn about our challenges and needs. Alice joined SHRM and attended the annual Leadership Conference in order to fully contribute to the association. HRM also benefited from Alice ’s wide network of contacts. She was always quick to offer a connection to sponsors, speakers and other professionals we sought.

Personally, Alice was a great friend and cheerleader. Many of you will recall a time when Alice offered you advice, a referral, or just a listening ear. She was an excellent networker and was ready to include anyone in her wide web of friends and associates. What I’ll remember best about Alice is the overwhelming example she gave of the power of a positive attitude and strong courage in the face of many difficult obstacles.

The HRM-RI Board has voted to establish an annual recognition award in honor of Alice. A committee will be working to formulate the criteria and nomination process for the The Alice Stanelun Award for Outstanding Support of the Human Resource Profession. Details will be announced in the spring.

In the meantime, HRM-RI members who wish to express their regard for Alice and their sympathy for her family may consider making a donation to the Program in Women's Oncology, 101 Dudley Street, Providence, RI, 02905, for purposes of the "Alice Stanelun Memorial Fund" to improve the lives of ovarian cancer patients.
